Landscape Planning Ltd | Water Voles
  Water Voles
The water vole can be found in ditches, river banks and slow flowing streams as well as ponds, lakes, canals and other man-made features.

Whilst water voles themselves are not yet fully protected, any 'structure or place which a water vole uses for shelter or protection' is strictly protected.

It is also illegal to disturb water voles whilst they are using such a place, as stated in Schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
